A Way of Seeing: Reading Southeast Asia Through Photobook and Self-Publishing (Reading SEA) is a research project focusing on photobooks and self-publishing that was initiated by Fotobook DUMMIES Day (FBDD). We visited and interviewed the artists, self-publishers, artist collectives, bookstores, archives and organizations on-site. In 2022, Fotobook DUMMIES Day expands our fields to four new cities in Southeast Asia: Bandung in Indonesia, Phnom Penh in Cambodia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Singapore. As practitioners, we aim to view and document the work of the interviewed self-publishers with the same lens. We hope to open up the possibility of mutual understanding and cooperation opportunities between Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
